Shrink files without converting them
File compression here means making a file smaller while keeping it exactly the same type. A PDF stays a PDF, a JPG stays a JPG and a Word document still opens in Word with the same formatting. Nothing is zipped, so the person you send it to doesn't have to unpack anything.
Most of the size in everyday files comes from images: photos inside PDFs and slide decks, screenshots pasted into documents, or camera photos saved at full resolution. CNVRT re-encodes those images efficiently, removes data you can't see (such as hidden camera metadata and duplicate image copies), and repacks the file with maximum lossless compression.
Choose how much to compress
Every file is compressed at three levels at the same time, so you can compare real results instead of guessing. Light keeps quality as close to the original as possible. Recommended is the sweet spot for email, uploads and sharing: typically a much smaller file with no difference you'll notice on screen. Strong produces the smallest possible file for strict upload limits, with some visible softening in photos.
If a level can't make the file any smaller (for example, a PDF that is already optimized), CNVRT tells you and gives you the original instead of a larger file.
Supported file types
Documents: PDF, Word (DOCX), PowerPoint (PPTX), Excel (XLSX) and OpenDocument (ODT, ODS, ODP). Images: JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF (including animated GIFs) and TIFF. Each file can be up to 200 MB.
Older binary Office formats (DOC, PPT, XLS) can be converted to their modern equivalents first with our converter, then compressed.
Tips for the best results
- 1.Use Recommended for email attachments and online forms: it usually cuts the size the most without visible quality loss.
- 2.If a website rejects your upload for size, try Strong and check the preview size shown before downloading.
- 3.Compressing the same file twice rarely helps; start again from the original for the best result.
- 4.Scanned PDFs and photo-heavy slide decks shrink the most. Text-only files are usually already small.
