JFIF vs PDF: Technical Overview

JFIF files are JPEG images with the .jfif extension, most often created when Windows saves an image downloaded in Chrome or Edge. The image inside uses standard JPEG compression. PDF supports JPEG (DCT) compression for embedded images, so a JFIF image can be placed on a PDF page with its compressed data kept in the same form rather than expanded into a much larger bitmap. The result is a document containing the image at full resolution, readable by every PDF reader and accepted by forms and portals that won't take image uploads, let alone the unfamiliar .jfif extension.

Why Convert JFIF to PDF?

Many application, claims and school portals accept only PDF files, and many image upload fields don't recognize .jfif. If you've downloaded or saved a scan, certificate or photo as .jfif and need to submit it, converting directly to PDF solves both problems in one step.

A PDF is also better for printing and filing: it opens the same way everywhere, keeps the image at a fixed page size and can be combined with other documents. For receipts, tickets and confirmations saved from websites as .jfif, a PDF fits naturally into your records.

What Changes During JFIF to PDF Conversion

Each JFIF image becomes one PDF page sized to the image, with no cropping or borders. The image keeps its full resolution and is stored with JPEG compression inside the PDF, so the PDF is about the same size as the original file and looks the same. Text within the image isn't converted to real text, so it can't be selected or searched. To combine several images into one PDF, convert each one and use CNVRT's Merge PDF tool.
